Gunfire Erupts at Howe Park Leaves 4 Shot in Arden-Arcade Sacramento

Sacramento County deputies are examining a gunfire incident that unfolded late Saturday at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the time deputies were breaking up a large unsanctioned party of hundreds of attendees.

What Led to the Shooting

Law enforcement first arrived at the Arden-Arcade park at about 6:30 PM after learning of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Shortly after, a second call came in regarding a potential altercation occurring within the park grounds.

A sheriff's airship scanned the area from the air but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Nevertheless, it was evident that a crowd of several hundred had assembled at the park in an unauthorized manner.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies started clearing the unauthorized gathering by surrounding the park and broadcasting over loudspeakers ordering the hundreds present to disperse at once. About 15 minutes were allowed for the crowd to leave.

It was during this dispersal that between 20 and 25 rounds were discharged. The rapid succession of shots sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Law enforcement immediately began searching for victims.

Four Victims Hospitalized

By the time the scene was secured, four individuals were identified as having gunshot wounds. The shooting victims — a group of one female and three male victims each reported to be in their twenties — were taken to area medical facilities. Medical teams noted that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one sustained moderate wounds, and one victim's wounds were minor. Fortunately, all four were in stable condition.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department assisted at the location and helped triage the four victims at the scene.

What Investigators Found

The primary shooting scene was determined to have unfolded near the Cottage Way corridor adjacent to the Home Depot situated at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Crime scene investigators discovered extra shell casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Projectile impacts were observed in the metal fencing adjacent to the nearby Home Depot. The physical evidence indicated that at least one of the shooters had been aiming south from Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot store. The store itself was placed on lockdown during the incident. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives worked tirelessly throughout the night.

Suspects Detained

Intelligence received over scanner radio traffic showed that a suspect Kia had been stopped in nearby Solano County. Four suspects were in the Sacramento park shooting 2026 vehicle at the time of the stop. Deputies were dispatched to Solano County to bring the suspects back for further questioning. Video evidence showed that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
